- First step towards B2C market… 10% lower prices and a reduction of distribution margins
POSCO LED has recently entered the B2C market in LED lighting. Reducing the distribution margin by selecting online channels has allowed its product to be launched at 12,900 KRW, 10% lower than the average retail price of competitors in large-scale discount stores in Korea.
POSCO LED has announced on the 14th of May that they will be launching a business in LED bulbs that will replace incandescent lamps at major domestic online shopping malls (here-and-after ‘open market’). Also, LEDs (MR16, PAR30) for halogen lamp
replacements will be available in the open market by the end of this month. The recently launched 7.2W LED bulb fits into the same socket as pre-existing 40-60W incandescent bulbs and 10W CFLs(Compact Fluorescent Lamps) reducing the complexity of changing conventional bulbs to LEDs in homes. In addition, LED bulbs can last up to ten years or more which not only cuts energy consumption up to 86% but also decreases CO2 emissions.
“POSCO LED is in possession of the world’s most advanced technology in the toughest field in the LED industry, which is LEDs for industrial facilities with poor environments. The high standards of globally known researchers from POSTECH(Pohang University of Science and Technology) and RIST(Research Institute of Industrial Science&
Technology) that have been developing the core technology in LED lighting such as heat dissipation and luminance efficiency, have substantially contributed to the creation of reliable products. Having the technological advancement as a foundation, we were able to produce and provide reliable LED products to consumers through the open market,” says the Domestic Sales Manager of POSCO LED. He adds, “We will continue to focus on developing price competitiveness and high quality products to become the pioneer in publicizing LED lighting.”
POSCO LED will be participating in and has also prepared an event to commemorate the product launch in the open market at the upcoming ‘International LED EXPO & OLED EXPO 2012,’ the largest LED Exhibition held in Korea, for four days starting on the 26th of June at KINTEX(Korea International Exhibition Center).
