- Building on its success in a B2C market with the LED semiconductor lamp, POSCO LED targets a B2B market.
- By easing the price pressure, the company facilitates the rapid adoption of LED lamp in industrial and distribution facilities.
- The lamp is powered by Acrich2+, the next generation LED module manufactured by Seoul Semiconductor, a leading LED manufacturer.
As electricity rates for industrial customers raised by 6.4% on November 21, 2013, facility managers working at large-scale industrial complexes and warehouses are anxious about the rates. As a solution for higher rates, high efficiency LED lamps are drawing attention. Still, they are hardly chosen since their costs range twice to five times as expensive as conventional lamps.
In order to eradicate price concern, POSCO LED, a leading manufacturer of industrial LED lighting, launched its new 36W LED semiconductor lamp for industrial customers, which is nearly 50% less expensive than its competitors as it uses the semiconductor device technology based on Acrich2+, the next generation LED module manufactured by Seoul Semiconductor.
The new 36W LED semiconductor lamp, the latest addition to its LED lamp lineup consisting of 9W and 13W LED semiconductor lamps for residential and commercial customers, can replace high output fluorescent lamps, metal halide lamps and sodium lamps. The lamp has a much lower number of components as its converter function is integrated as a semiconductor device. Therefore, the product shows a low failure rate with up to 8 times longer life span than conventional products, while offering the same base type (E39 or E26) with those already in the market, allowing consumers to replace the lamps without additional modification. In addition to manufacturing facilities, applications include warehouses, entry access of parking lots and outdoor space of residential and commercial facilities. The lamps are available through a network of POSCO LED resellers. (For more information, visit www.poscoled.com)
“POSCO LED’s LED semiconductor lamp has hit the shelves of top 3 superstores in Korea, satisfying customers with its innovative LED semiconductor technology under the slogan of ‘Half Price Twice Life Span’. As a result, it became the best-selling LED lamp, leading the wide adoption of LED lamps in Korea,” said Cho Bong-rae, CEO of POSCO LED. “Building on our knowhow to make a success in the B2C market, we launched a new 36W LED semiconductor lamp targeting a B2B market including energy consuming manufacturing facilities. The new product will contribute to energy saving at industrial and commercial facilities as well as low carbon economic development.”
POSCO LED’s LED semiconductor lamp has attracted a keen interest from customers in Europe, Southeast Asia and Korea, recording a significant volume in initial order. The company expects that the lamp will be a hit next year.
* LED semiconductor lamp: the next generation LED lamp powered by Acrich2+ manufactured by Seoul Semiconductor. The first generation of LED lamps use the direct current so that they need a complex circuit system like switched-mode power supply to convert the alternating current at households and industrial facilities to the direct current for the lamps. But, the LED semiconductor lamp manufactured by POSCO LED simplifies such a complex circuit system by adopting a semiconductor device for the conversion, featuring strengths in energy efficiency, credibility, reliability and price competitiveness.
